Described in 1997, Alocasia melo is a terrestrial jewel Alocasia native to tropical Sabah, Borneo. It boasts incredibly tough and rigid leaves that have the texture of elephant or rhino skin. Due to it's succulent nature, it's a bit hardier than some of the other jewel species. One of the parent plants of Alocasia 'Maharani' (A. reginula x A. melo).
Alocasia melo enjoys bright indirect to partial direct sun exposure, a chunky, well-draining potting mix, moderate to high temps, and would thrive in some higher humidity levels. Likes to dry in-between waterings.
May need to be repotted once every 1-2 years.
Toxic to pets.
6" nursery pots available.
